Cellulite is a condition which affects up to 90% of women at sometime in their life and is where the skin appears to have areas with underlying fat deposits, giving it a dimpled, lumpy appearance. It is most noticeable on the buttocks and thighs and usually occurs after puberty.
There are three grades of cellulite:
1. Is only apparent from microscopic examination which shows underlying anatomical changes
2. The skin shows pastiness, lower temperature, and reduced elasticity
3. Visible orange peel effect of rough skin
The cause of cellulite is unknown but is thought to involve a combination of hormones, genetics, diet, lifestyle factors and clothing.
