Intense pulsed light therapy ,(photofacial) is a way to improve the colour and texture of your skin without surgery. It can undo some of the visible damage caused by sun exposure -- called photoaging. Most commonly found on your face, neck, hands, or chest.
This treatment improves a range of skin conditions. It can be used to treat dilated blood vessels (spider veins). IPL photofacial treatments have expanded in scope to address vascular lesions, pigmented lesions, and even unwanted hair.
It is also frequently used for photorejuvenation, to decrease brown spots from sun damage, improve skin texture, as well as to minimise broken capillaries and redness, including rosacea. And it can help treat redness from acne and acne scars.
Though not its main indication, an IPL photofacial treatment can also stimulate collagen production and improve signs of ageing, like fine lines and wrinkles. An IPL device delivers an arc of light energy that penetrates all levels of the skin, without harming the surface, so there’s little to no downtime afterward.
IPL delivers broad-spectrum visible light at multiple wavelengths, painting the area in broad strokes. It can attack several different skin problems at the same time, such as brown spots and red areas. Light from IPL is more scattered, so it’s able to treat your skin without damaging the top layer, resulting in quicker healing.
After the photofacial, there will be some mild redness. Most clients are able to wear make-up straight after the procedure, but please follow the aftercare advice given. Some discoloration in the area treated may be noticable, but this is normal. This will disappear as the skin cells are healing.
You’ll see improvement about a week after each treatment. Most clients need 3 to 5 photofacial sessions. Maximum results will be noticeable in 3 to 5 months if you receive a series of IPL treatments about a month apart between each session.
IPL treatment is suitable for anyone looking to get rid of hyperpigmentation, Blemishes and blotches. As IPL also gently heats the deeper levels of the skin which helps to stimulate collagen production. This is also a great treatment for anyone looking to prevent ageing.

IPL Photofacial treatments require little or no downtime. As few as one or two treatments can reduce spots, smooth uneven pigmentation, help repair broken facial capillaries and veins, and reduce the redness associated with rosacea. Additional treatments will continue to improve tone, texture, and stimulate the dermis to produce more collagen.
By definition, IPL therapy involves short, intense pulses of light being delivered to the skin. As a result, you may experience small raised bumps and redness in the treatment area shortly after your treatment. This will subside in a few days and is no cause for alarm.
Depending on the size of area treated and IPL treatment can last anywhere from 15 to 45 minutes.
The treatments recommended will be based on your skin assessment within your consultation. However we do always recommend a course of treatments for the best results.
